Leslie Earle and Megan Tompkins Share MSVU PR Co-op Student of the Year

this just out from the Co-op Office... Way to go, Leslie and Megan!

Each year deserving students are nominated by employers for the MSVU Co-op Student of the Year Awards. We are pleased that so many employers invested the time in recognizing students' contributions to their organizations. The employer nominations and students' personal statements are very rewarding to read.

The selection committee had the difficult task of choosing one student from each discipline to be named MSVU Co-op Student of the Year (2006). For the first time ever, two students will share the honor of receiving the MSVU Co-op Student of the Year Award for one discipline. The selection criteria included academic achievement, community involvement contribution to employer, and the impact co-op has had on personal and professional development.

The 2006 recipients are:

Ahmed Dalloul (Business Administration), nominated by Scotiabank, in Halifax, NS;

Jianghong (Sunny) Zhang (Information Technology), nominated by the MSVU Research and International Office, in Halifax, NS;

Leslie Earle (Public Relations), nominated by the Centre for Women in Business, in Halifax, NS;

Megan Tompkins (Public Relations), nominated by Skills Canada - Nova Scotia, in Halifax, NS; and

Claire Sullivan (Tourism & Hospitality Management), nominated by the Department of Economic Development, Tourism and Culture, in St. John's, NL.

Chris Felix (Information Technology) received honorable mention and was nominated by the Nova Scotia Department of Finance, in Halifax, NS.

The selection committee was comprised of the Director of Co-operative Education, Dr. Mary Lyon; the academic Chairs, Professor Paula Crouse, Professor Ann MacGillivary and Dr. Marie Riley; the Manager of Co-operative Education, Sonya Horsburgh; and the Co-operative Education Coordinators, Scott Daniels, Mausi Reinbold and Kirsten Somers.

These nominations are just one more example of how "MSVU Co-op Students Work!". Congratulations!

Yours truly,

The MSVU Co-op Team
